Bee Bricks and Bird Boxes in Brighton
Due to rampant pesticide use bee populations worldwide are plummeting. This inspired a design studio in Cornwall to come up with Bee Bricks, a building brick designed for solitary bees to nest in. The city of Brighton has now ordered that every new building above 5m must include a bee brick and a bird nesting box to boost local biodiversity.
Although bees are dying due to habitat loss and pesticide use, bee bricks and bird boxes can change city dwellersβ relationship with local wildlifeβencouraging them to ditch lawns for meadows and welcome back animals returning thanks to rewilding efforts.
