🏡 SuperAdobes
SuperAdobe is a form of earth architecture developed by architect and CalEarth founder Nader Khalili. Using “SuperAdobe Bags" (long sandbags), barbed wire, and a few tools, Khalili devised a revolutionary building system that integrates traditional earth architecture with contemporary global safety requirements.
The Superadobe system connects rural traditions and natural materials (such as mud, water, air and fire) in a easy and efficient building process without requiring large construction equipment.
Furthermore, it is a very convenient building option for disaster regions as well as low-income areas having passed severe earthquake code tests in California.
🦪 New York’s Billion Oyster Project
The Billion Oyster Project envisions a more biodiverse New York Harbor by restoring its lost oyster reefs. Founded in 2014 by a school director and an aquaculturist, the organization aims to restore 1 billion oysters in the New York by 2035. The organization holds a big focus on education, involving over 100 schools and thousands of student volunteers to encourage change through meaningful education.
“Pete and I both had the opportunity to fall in love with the environment as kids, and we wanted to reproduce that feeling for as many kids in the city as possible.”— Murray Fisher, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board
Why Oyster Reefs?
They filter water
They boost biodiversity
